This isn’t my typical blog post, as it has nothing to do with fashion or our beach adventures from the weekend (more on that later). But I wanted to take a minute to talk about a subject that’s important to me. I don’t talk about this much, because it’s become such an isolated area of my life now that I’m so far from where I was, and people don’t like to talk about things like this. But how else will we raise awareness if no one talks about it?!

This week, Feb. 21-27, is National Eating Disorders Awareness Week. If you’ve been following my blog for awhile or know me personally, you may or may not know that this is something I deeply struggled with in the past (you can read my story here). BUT, praise God I am now recovered. The sole reason that I made it to/through recovery is because the people who love me cared enough to educate themselves on the issue, and made a point to get me help.

Eating disorders have the highest mortality rate of any mental disorder. This is real people. I wouldn’t be here right now if God hadn’t snapped me out of it and gotten me help. Recovery is possible, and there is hope for anyone who’s struggling with this! 

There are so many misconceptions about ED’s, and many times they are even glorified because the media has warped the image of the perfect man/woman. Please take some time this week to educate yourself on the matter, especially if you or someone you know is going through it. There are so many talented professionals out there who can help you, just like the awesome team of professionals (dietitians, psychologists, doctors, etc.) helped me six years ago. I’m still not perfect by any means, but I am so thankful that I’m SO much better than I used to be. God made us in His image, why be any less than happy with that?
