Hi guys! In my last wellness Wednesday post (forever ago, oops), it was about fitness/my latest workout. However, this week I want to point out how much more there is to wellness. It encompasses mental health as well, which is 100% as important as physical health.

This week, I’ve been pretty sick with a terrible cold or sinus infection (avoiding the doctor’s office, so who really knows lol). It has completely thrown off my workout game, which I have been strictly improving lately. As many of you know, I had to go a long period of time without being physically able to workout, BUT in the last few months I have finally been back to myself! Therefore, I have set some personal fitness/wellness goals and have a burning desire to reach them.

So, throw in this sore throat/stuffy nose/pressure migraine that I’ve had, and there goes my workouts for a few days. Womp womp.

At first, I was honestly really upset with my body for not having the energy to workout. The first day I felt sick, I forced myself to go to the gym regardless, and left quickly feeling 100 times worse.

That’s when it hit me. It’s OKAY to take some days off, especially if my body needs rest. If my goal is to become stronger, then pushing it when it’s low on energy is not going to get me stronger any faster. If my goal is to keep my body healthy, then working out while not healthy is doing just the opposite.

Taking a few days off is not going to ruin the progress that’s already been made. If you’re on a fitness or wellness journey, please remember this! As long as you are consciously making healthy choices when it comes to what you eat, then a few days of rest will not ruin your progress. You can’t let rest drive you crazy, because even God told us we are to rest at least one day a week!

I’ll stop rambling now, but I know personally how addicting the gym can become. So I wanted to remind you that it is so okay to rest every now and then! Just use it to motivate you next week in the gym!

Listen to your body. Fuel your body. And most importantly, love your body.

Grilled Romaine Salad

Hi guys! I hope your hump day is going well! I’m so thankful for this week being a short one; I could definitely get used to longer weekends and shorter work weeks! A girl can dream.

We had a great Labor Day weekend. It rained pretty much all weekend because of #Hermine, so we stayed in and relaxed and caught up on cleaning (& college football holla). It felt so good to finally not have to be somewhere on our days off! I think it is so important to take time every few days to recharge both individually and as a couple. Life is busy.

Anyways, on Sunday we wanted a quick and easy lunch after church, so we drew inspiration from one of our favorite restaurants back in Colorado. When we ate there, I always got the grilled romaine salad, and it was always amazing. We decided to recreate it ourselves, now that we have a grill!

I made my own balsamic vinaigrette for it, but you can use store bought if you prefer.

It turns out it’s SUPER simple, and it only took us about 20 minutes total. And it’s SO GOOD.

Here’s the recipe:

Grilled Romaine Salad
Prep time: 20 minutes Serves: 2

1/4 cup balsamic vinegar
1/2 cup olive oil
1/2 tsp salt + pepper
1/2 tsp garlic (or 1 tsp depending on your preference)
Whisk together in a bowl; set aside.


1 bag of romaine hearts (we got the bag of three hearts so it yielded six halves)
Bleu cheese
Olive oil
Bacon crumbles


Heat the grill to medium heat. While it heats, slice the romaine hearts in half, lengthwise. Baste them lightly in olive oil. Once grill is ready, carefully place romaine (inside down) on the grill. Leave on the grill for about 4-5 minutes. After removing from grill, place on plate (inside up) and drizzle on the balsamic dressing. Then, top with bleu cheese and bacon crumbles. Enjoy! *you can add croutons if you are a crouton person or just want more toppings! I left them off to save on calories*

SO so simple, yet so delicious. It doesn’t sound like much, but the smokey flavor from the grill gives it so much extra flavor. The bleu cheese really makes the whole dish, in my opinion. I love bleu cheese. However, if you are not a bleu cheese lover, feta would also be great!

Summer/Fall Transition

Happy Friday, loves! I am finally back with an #ootd post, which is long overdue.

We have been either out of town or having people in town staying with us for the last five weeks or so. It has been so much fun but SO exhausting. I’ve been swimming in homework, on top of the school year starting at work. Luckily, we are off today (Friday) and Monday is a holiday so it’s a looong weekend! Couldn’t be happier. Also, we survived the “hurricane” that hit last night. As you can see from the clear sky behind me, it cleared up pretty quick. It rained for a few minutes and was a little windy, so we got lucky. Saying some prayers for those who did get affected by it, though.

So, my favorite time of year is finally upon us. FOOTBALL. SEASON.

In fact, the reason I’m doing this post so late is because we just finished our Fantasy Football draft. My Razorbacks play tomorrow. My Broncos play on Thursday. I’m so pumped! My excitement for football season is what inspired today’s outfit. I wanted to show you guys what I’d wear if I was headed to a local bar to watch the Hogs play (hence the pop of red).

There’s a funny story behind this crop top – I never buy crop tops anymore, as I feel that I am too old and left that phase in my senior year of college. However, this crop top may have changed my mind. When I ordered this top (HERE), I was intending on ordering the skirt they had it paired with. I was dying for that skirt. So I bought it. Well, it came in the mail, what I thought was my skirt. I opened it and this crop top was in there. I realized I accidentally bought the top, not the skirt. I didn’t read the description closely enough to realize the skirt was the item next to it… Ooops! But look how cute it is!! It worked out well for me, because this is the perfect comfy/cute crop. Say that ten times fast.

Anyways, I paired it with denim shorts to keep it casual, because I wanted to wear my SEC hat. But I have so many outfit ideas in mind for this crop, it goes with everything. I threw on the plaid button up to break it up a little and of course add a pop of color. It also makes it a little more fall-ish; since it’s September now I figured I could start the transition.
