Wellness Wednesday

HIII happy hump day! Halfway to Friday people.

So lets talk about my favorite yoga pants. These blue and gray ones from Firepower are seriously the shiz. They feel so amazing on! The material is comfy and high quality. They are a little more expensive than what I normally buy BUT hear me when I say SO. WORTH. IT. They’re still cheaper than Lulu though but still the same quality (hello, score). And they’re squat proof ladies!! I love how high waisted they are so no riding down your booty as you squat. This black mesh sports bra is also from Firepower. You can get a discount with my code – ‘REASONER’! I’ve got more exciting, new Firepower looks coming soon so stay tuned for those.

I have mentioned recently that I’m struggling with a knee injury that has set me back in my workouts (hashtag anxiety). Fortunately it’s looking like I won’t need surgery (thank God!) but they still don’t know why it’s still hurting. So frustrating! But anyways, at first I used my knee as an excuse to skip my workouts completely. Yes I was in a lot of pain so that’s understandable… to an extent. But now I have realized that instead of letting it defeat me, I can use this time as a chance to focus on what I CAN do instead of what I can’t.

For example: one of my biggest fitness goals right now is to do a pull-up on my own. So instead of being sad I can’t work legs on leg day (my fav workout) I can focus that energy on improving my upper body strength. My knee may be weak but my arms are perfectly fine. Might as well go hard with them! If you have something that you feel is holding you back from your goals, let it motivate you instead!

While rest days are extremely important, don’t use the little things as an excuse. Get out there and kick that excuses butt. Tired from work? Even just a 30 minute walk can boost your mood and energy. Too hot outside? Go for a swim – then you’re cooling off AND getting cardio in. Whatever it is, just do it.

And get some Firepower so you’ll look badass doing it 😉

Thanks for reading!

My Review of “What the Health”

*actual picture of the eggs I ate last night ^

I’m sure you’ve heard by now all the rave about the latest documentary on Netflix called “What the Health.” I certainly have, and was shocked at the response and number of people claiming they needed to instantly change their whole diet based solely on this documentary. So I immediately decided I needed to watch it and form my own opinions on it.

If you haven’t heard about it or seen it yet, this documentary looks at the link between our diets (mostly meat and dairy) and major diseases they can potentially cause. It is clearly produced by people pushing the vegan agenda, and it also completely discredits several major health organizations (like the American Cancer Society, American Heart Association, etc.).

I will start by saying this: I do acknowledge and appreciate that the health of our nation is being discussed. We are certainly experiencing an obesity epidemic in this country, and it should be brought to light how to prevent it further. The majority of people need to start understanding how the type/amount of foods they are consuming is affecting their overall health. However, the way this film goes about it is not so much informative as it is simply one giant scare tactic with little valid research to back it.

One of the biggest red flags to me was that, throughout the whole 1.5-hour-long film, they interviewed only TWO Registered Dietitians, and one of those two only spoke for about a whole 20 seconds. The rest were mostly doctors who simply stated their opinions without backing it with hard scientific evidence. AND, at the end of the film, several of the doctors even admitted that doctors hardly get ANY nutritional education and know little about how diet affects the body… so then why are we taking everything they are pushing on us without questioning their research or validity?!

Here are my main points I wrote down while watching it that I want to share:

YES processed meat is not the type of meat you should be consuming for the majority of your meat choices… NO meat will not give you cancer, as long as you are choosing the right kinds! (Lean meats that are organically raised/fed are best, but this is not always realistic. It isn’t the meat that’s harmful, but the chemicals/antibiotics that are sometimes put in them.) I personally am not the biggest fan of meat but only because it’s a preference thing – I do still try to eat a serving of lean meat at least a few times a week.

YES a vegan/plant-based diet CAN work for people! Don’t get me wrong, I find nothing wrong with a plant-only diet, if you have your reasons for doing so. You can still get all the macro- and micronutrients needed from plants if you follow it correctly. But if you choose to do so because this video scared you into thinking meat of any kind at all is going to kill you? NOT a good reason. You do not have to rely on a plant-based diet to avoid disease. People on a plant-based diet can still get sick, just like people on animal-based diets can. Every body is different and handles food in its own way.

NO sugar alone does not cause diabetes… the main contributors to diabetes are genetics, lack of physical activity, and high energy (calorie) intake. So yes, a diet full of sugar is often associated with a high energy diet. Don’t let the wording of that whole diabetes conversation confuse you. And no, eating plants will probably not reverse your diabetes in a week or two like they imply. Food can certainly be the best medication in many circumstances, but it’s very complex and disease-dependent.

NO eating one egg a day is NOT equivalent to smoking five cigarettes a day!!! This one really pissed me off, to be honest. If eggs were as bad as smoking five cigarettes a day, I’d probably be dead or have cancer by now. It is also not equivalent to a whole egg McMuffin.

YES eggs have cholesterol in their yolks! NO it is not going to kill you as long as you’re eating them moderately, and yolks also have nutrients not found in the whites of the egg.

YES diets high in red meat (*note I said HIGH in red meat, not just eating a serving. A small amount in the diet won’t hurt you*) can be a risk factor for cancer… BUT this film claims that even lean chicken can cause cancer! Um, last time I checked chicken isn’t red meat so bye.

YES you can consume dairy and NOT DIE!!!! Let’s think about this… if dairy is terrible for us, then WHY IS IT A WHOLE FOOD GROUP?! Yes you should choose low/non fat options and yes you should not eat it in excess… but to go to the extent of saying that even babies don’t need milk? A bit excessive if you ask me. And if you’re reading this then I assume you pretty much asked me, so you can’t get mad at my somewhat sassy opinions. 🙂

YES you should try to avoid constant medications IF possible, but some people simply need them based on their conditions. So yes, the pharma industry is huge and all about the money, but some people can’t simply be healed by eating plants. If it were that easy then this would all be a different story.

YES some of the sponsors of these organizations do happen to have a conflict of interest, and I do find that odd and slightly off-putting. But at least the organization is there and is making the effort to do something about the issue. Before completely discrediting them, you should make sure your research is accurate.

Overall, I would not recommend this documentary to someone because it is so one-sided and misinformed that it is completely misleading people. My advice? Find what works for YOUR body, based on YOUR specific needs, and focus on a balanced, varied diet consisting of REAL whole foods, while also making healthy lifestyle choices. If you want to lose weight and trim fat? Energy in must be less than energy out… AKA eat less and/or workout more. Adequate amounts of protein, fat, and carbohydrate are key. Don’t buy into everything you hear, unless you know they are a valid resource back by scientific evidence.

Thank you for reading! If you disagree with my opinions, please know that I respect that and don’t mean to offend ANYONE! I simply want people to be informed of misleading information so that they know to make the best choices for their body/wellbeing 🙂

Like the Ocean

Happy Sunday 🙂

Today in church, we were singing a song that said “from skies to oceans deep, Your love goes on.” I have heard this song numerous times, since it’s one of the ones they sing on most Sundays. But this time, as soon as I heard that line, something stuck with me.

Oceans deep.

I instantly had so many thoughts running through my head. I thought of the photo of the ocean I took a few weeks ago when I was at the beach (it’s the one I posted above and is also the background screen on my phone). I thought of the big, beautiful, scary ocean that I’ve come to love so much, that consumes my photo library, my hobbies and free time, and that helps create a majority of the memories I’ve made here.

Even through the rest of the message in church (which was GOOD don’t get me wrong), I couldn’t stop making all of these ocean parallels in my head. So I’m sharing them with you because who knows maybe that’s why He put em in my head 🙂

Sometimes, life is like the ocean. It is beautiful yet terrifying. It can be amazing and awe-inspiring. It can also be rough, and can throw you around and make you feel like you’re drowning. And other times you feel like you’re floating peacefully on a nice vacation. You can’t see what’s out there most of the time. Sometimes, like at the ocean, you’ll be surrounded by people – family and friends and new relationships. Other times, you’ll be so alone and isolated you wonder if anyone is even there. The waves of life will knock you down repeatedly, but once you get back up, you’ll see nothing but beauty.

But, regardless of whatever point you’re at in the ocean of life, God’s love is there. And that is how God’s LOVE is also like the ocean…

No matter how rough the waves get, the water is still there at the end of the day, right? Well so is His love. No matter how rough life gets, no matter what waves Satan throws your way, God’s love is there at the end of the day. You may not be able to see the whole plan right now, but that doesn’t mean He’s not there.

So keep going.

Keep trying.

Keep swimming.

Keep praying.

Keep fighting. For whatever it is that you’re fighting the waves for.

KEEP GOING. Because He’s not going anywhere, and He’s got a beautiful, ocean sunrise waiting for you.

I’ll give you a glimpse into my own waves I’ve been fighting, and it’s kind of crazy how literal and metaphorical this is all at the same time. As some of you may know, I’m dealing with a knee injury from a couple months back. It hasn’t improved and I’m currently waiting on MRI results to see what the next step is (prayers for no surgery plz cause ain’t got time for that ish). I have been very frustrated throughout the last couple months ever since it happened, and I was so angry that God let it happen to me because I had JUST gotten to where I wanted to be physically – I was working out harder than ever and learning to love my body. And then an injury. One that keeps me from doing my favorite things like biking, running, even walking.

Anyways, guess how I injured my knee? IN THE FREAKING OCEAN. LOL RIGHT?? I was swimming against the current one day, and as soon as I planted my feet, a huge wave hit me from the side and twisted my knee so hard I could instantly feel that something was wrong.

I won’t go into any more detail because it’s irrelevant, but wow is God teaching me a lesson. An example that the waves of life can LITERALLY knock you down and throw off your own plans. But to get through it you have to remember that His plan is better even though you can’t see it right now!

Like I said. KEEP GOING.

Your sunrise is coming.

My Pet Peeve in the Health World

Hi! I know I kind of vented / voiced my opinions in my previous post, butttt… I’m about to do that again!

**Like I said before, I only go on rants if I actually feel they’re valid rants 😉

Let’s talk about my BIGGEST pet peeve in the health world.

The health world has become a world everyone and their mom wants to be a part of – which is fabulous! I love that so many people are hopping on the healthy train (or “healthy” train, if you know what I mean)! Obesity is getting out of control in our country, so it makes my nutrition-loving heart HAPPY to see so many people/restaurants/companies trying to watch calories/ingredients and whatnot.

BUT… (here comes the but).

NOT EVERYONE IS A TRUE NUTRITION PROFESSIONAL! I repeat – not EVERYONE is a nutrition professional!!!! So WHY are you listening to anyone and everyone on the internet?!

Here’s the deal. Anyone can go on the internet, find some ish on nutrition, do a little research, and BAM they can become a self-proclaimed “nutritionist.” ANYONE can do this! They could have NO idea what the difference is between a carbohydrate and an amino acid, and still try and tell you what/how to eat! To me, that is terrifying.

On the other hand, you have people (like yours truly) who spent four YEARS of intense studying, hard work, and hard @$$ chem tests to earn a degree in nutrition and actually know exactly what they’re talking about! Especially those people who go on to earn their RD (registered dietitian) after their degree. We didn’t go through all of those brutal chem labs and case studies for nothing, y’all.

So how do you know who to trust with your nutrition information?! Check their credentials FIRST thing. You should primarily listen to those who have their RD, this means they have done their internship and passed their RD test, and have extensive knowledge in food and nutrition, and are great if you’re seeking nutrition counseling! At the very least, find someone who has a degree in the area. And if they’re not an RD, check to see what other nutrition background they may have!

While I think it’s amazing how many bloggers out there are eating healthy and getting into great shape, many are not qualified in nutrition counseling. I get so frustrated when I see unqualified people trying to push THEIR diet plans (not recipes – but actual diet plans) on people who it may not work for or be good for! I am not bashing anyone for promoting their healthy lifestyle – some of these people DO have the qualifications! But before incorporating it into your own life, check their credentials and whether it would be a good HEALTHY fit for your body. Everyone’s body is different – and chances are your BMR is different, your activity level is different, your intolerances are different, than that of the random website you’re reading. Check your facts people! One of my all time favorite bloggers, Rachlmansfield.com, is a wonderful example of all this, because every time she promotes a healthy product or way of eating, she clearly states that she is a food blogger not a dietitian and that what she’s promoting is simply what’s good for her. And I love that!! Go Rachel! (She will probably never see this but I’m a huge fan- go check her out for amazing recipes).

I feel like I say this a lot but I really REALLY don’t mean to sound preachy – just feel like I’d be failing as a member of the dietetics world if I didn’t warn you guys, my dear followers, of this because I have seen it SO much lately!

If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to ask!

Pictured is Pesto Chicken Zoodles – one of my fav dinners lately. Recipe below!

I made this for 1 since it’s just me right now, so you can adjust the recipe for however many people you’re prepping for.

1 boneless skinless chicken breast
1 whole zucchini, spiralized
1/4 cup pesto

Bake chicken or cook in crockpot. I cooked mine in the crockpot with a little bit of pesto, pepper, and garlic powder (low for 6-8 hours or high for 3-4 hours, depending how much chicken). After zucchini is spiralized, transfer to skillet and sautee with the remaining pesto, about 3 – 4 minutes. Serve chicken over the zucchini noodles, and add a bit of extra pesto if needed. Parmesan would be great as a topping! Enjoy!

My Body Positivity Philosophy

I was recently having a conversation about body positivity that provoked the question – what is my take on the body positive movement?

Ever since I recovered from my eating disorder, I have become a fan of the body positivity movement. It was like a breath of fresh air after spending so long being a shell of a person, who had nothing but negative thoughts about body image. Once I found my own balance and self-love, I loved (& still love!) the thought of empowering and encouraging other women to love their own bodies – flaws and all. But I also have developed and evolved my own personal opinion on it.

Not only have I been through hell and back with an eating disorder battle, but I have my Bachelor’s in nutrition, so I obviously encourage an active lifestyle and healthy eating habits. I promote healthy lifestyle choices NOT to “be skinny” but to be healthy. Balance is so key in my life in many aspects but especially for my lifestyle (eating/exercise).

This is where the body positivity movement becomes a gray area in my opinion. I’m all about letting everyone have their own opinion and keeping my mouth shut on mine, but when I actually know what I’m talking about I like to call it out and speak my mind.

Body positivity SHOULD most definitely be… loving yourself regardless of your flaws, embracing those flaws, working out because you LOVE your body not because you hate it, and taking care of yourself — with a positive attitude through it all!

Body positivity should NOT be… using the body positive movement as an excuse to ignore unhealthy weight/unhealthy choices, avoiding exercise, and getting out of taking care of yourself.

NO you should not hate yourself, even if you are overweight/not where you want to be. You are, after all, fearfully and wonderfully made. But YES you should love yourself enough to make whatever changes are necessary to reach a healthy point. And NO you should not let those unhealthy behaviors steal your joy, because your weight does not define you. YES you should still strive to maintain a healthy lifestyle, because you love your body and want what’s best for it – you only get one ya know!

When you get your body to a healthy place – and I don’t just mean lose a bunch of weight because “healthy” has different meanings for every body – then all the rest will fall into place. The body positive movement is great for encouraging people to genuinely love their bodies… I hope and pray that every person can find that balance and love for themselves. But the body positive movement needs to stop making excuses for unhealthy eating and/or exercise habits. Maintaining a healthy lifestyle takes conscious effort, and yes that effort may be impossible on some days… but if you’re aiming for health at least most of the time, chances are you’ll find it easier to love yourself than if you’re making those excuses and avoiding healthy choices.

“Healthy” might mean you need to lose 10 pounds and a small percentage of body fat in order to avoid diabetes or heart risk. Or, “healthy” might mean you need to gain 15 pounds to get your period back and maintain a healthy body fat. Whatever “healthy” means to you, chase those goals, keep your attitude positive, and most importantly love yourself through all of those changes. That is what body positivity means to me. Because I believe that if you have a positive body image, you will have that desire to maintain health through an active lifestyle and healthy food choices (and balance throughout). If your ultimate goal is to be healthy AND happy, you shouldn’t use this millennial perspective to let go of your goals. Use it to fuel your motivation to meet your goals, whatever they may be.

I went from despising every picture I saw of myself and every glance I took in the mirror, to feeling amazing in every photo I see of myself (except for the outtakes where the wind blows my hair in my face and a bug lands on me all at the same time) and pointing out my own imperfections with admiration. I went from working out excessively due to hating my body, to listening to it and exercising in a healthy way to get stronger not skinnier. I love my body now, regardless of the parts that don’t look how I want them to. I would say that is pretty body positive! I didn’t suddenly begin overeating and become completely inactive because it’s the cool thing to do now… because that wouldn’t be good for my health!

I hope this helps clarify the gray area of the body positive movement – not to ramble about my own opinion but to shed light on how it could become potentially dangerous if viewed the wrong way. Don’t get me wrong – I’m still a big fan of it, I just want people to understand how it can be a good thing AND how it can be a not so good thing.

And keep in mind this is simply my opinion, so if you disagree that’s totally fine! I’d love to hear more opinions on this. I hope you feel amazing today! Thanks for reading

Love on Yourself Today

Hi pretty people!

I hope your day is going great, whatever you it is you are doing 🙂

I have talked about this towel in my instagram here and there, but it’s finally making its appearance on here. I love the round towel trend going on lately, and this one is such a fun print! I got it HERE and you can also use code “REASONER” for a discount. They have fitness apparel and lots of other goodies too! You’ll definitely be seeing more Firepower on here soon!

So speaking of bikinis… let’s talk about loving yourself – something y’all know I’m a huge fan of if you’ve read many of my posts.

Regardless of how big of a self-love advocate I am, I still occasionally struggle with loving the skin I’m in just as much as the next person. Lately I struggle with it more so than usual, because I’ve been unable to workout as much as I typically do, due to an injury. *Sidenote, if anyone knows how to acquire a bubble to live in let me know, I think I need one* So, when my ability to be active is compromised, the self doubt starts to set in and satan likes to take over from there. DON’T buy into it!

Am I right? Does this sound like something you struggle with, even if you can workout like normal? I always feel a little bit better when I can find someone to relate with how I’m feeling. So here I am, reminding you that you’re not the only one. Please let this be your daily reminder that you are amazing, beautiful, and a badass. Don’t buy into the negative thoughts in your head — having a roll here and there when you sit, or having stretch marks, or not having ripped abs, are not your flaws but what make you beautiful because no one else’s stretch marks, abs, or skin rolls are quite like yours. And that’s pretty cool.

So do yourself a favor and show your body some love. And this probably wont be the last time you hear me say that.

Thanks for stopping by!

Tropical Vibes

Happy Monday! It’s almost the best holiday ever and I’m so excited! I love the 4th of July and can’t wait to celebrate how awesome our country is 🙂

There’s a kind of funny story behind this shirt. I actually bought it two years ago and just cut the tags off and wore it this week. I got it back when I lived in Colorado after Jon proposed because I thought it’d be great for our honeymoon. I started stocking up on cute, beachy clothes and just saved them all for after the wedding. Well… here we are two years later and we haven’t gotten around to taking our honeymoon haha! Life gets crazy like that.

Anyways, I finally decided to just cut the tags and wear it – especially since palm prints are SO in this season. I have decided it’s time to just start stocking up on a new set of honeymoon clothes by now 😉 We are trying to take our trip this winter so hopefully life will allow us to slow down and take it!

I also have a broken toe right now, so just ignore the giant white tape on my foot. Another one of life’s LOL moments that you just have to roll with. I’ve had lots of those lately.

Anyways, this shirt is Show Me Your Mumu so it’s probably no longer in stock BUT I know they have tons of NEW fabulous tropical prints in stock now!! I got mine through Riffraff.

Shoes are forever21 and pants are Target! I feel like I’m always saying, “Oh thanks I got it at Target.” I might have a problem.

I’m off to the beach — have the best 4th of July ever! Thanks for reading!

Florals + Sunshine

Happy Friday!

I have recently discovered shein.com and it quickly made its way to the top of my favorites list (they are not paying me to say this- I actually just love them haha). They have so many cute things and tons of new arrivals all the time. Plus it. is. SO. affordable! This whole outfit was less than $25 (shirt + shorts)!!

I love the floral on this top for a pop of color, and the sheer material keeps it from looking too dark. You can dress it up or down – I kind of went for in between. You could also throw a lacey bralette underneath, instead of a tank, to make it a little sexier, depending where you’re going.

I loved shooting this look because it was the most beautiful day in Rosemary Beach. The week before had been super rainy and cloudy from the tropical storm, so enjoying a sunny day in a dreamy beach town was just what I needed! I realized, when the sun came back out after disappearing for a few days, that my mood had shifted with the weather. Everything seemed to be going wrong and I struggled to stay positive that week. I had let the gloominess get me down, even though in the grand scheme, things really weren’t that bad. The sun came back out and I felt like a weight had lifted. Maybe it was a coincidence, maybe not, but I think God was trying to remind me that He’s like the sun – you can’t always see Him but he’s always there waiting to shine when you need Him most! So don’t let the rainy days get you down – just take advantage of them and binge your favorite show or read your favorite book; whatever you gotta do to stay positive!

If you’re reading this, thank YOU. Have the best day ever!

Smiling Fearlessly with Smile Brilliant

I have been so excited to post this for you guys. I want to share with you the experience I’ve had with my new favorite way to whiten teeth – Smile Brilliant!

Because I know many of you (if not ALL) are probably on your second cup of coffee by now, let’s be real.

So, let’s rewind a few years to when I was in college… back when my coffee addiction began. It was my junior year, I had just transferred and changed majors AND gotten a new job, so my life suddenly got REAL busy. My life became: eat, class, work, study, repeat. Notice how there is no “sleep” in that pattern… because I truly rarely slept! I turned to coffee. I had made it to 21 without HAVING to have coffee in my life. But y’all… that year I just couldn’t live without it! The addiction had begun. I drank it alllllll the time, several times a day most days.

Now, here I am, still in a committed relationship with coffee. I have tried to quit coffee numerous times. It just doesn’t work out! I even do decaf (ugh I just cringed at myself) sometimes, but never quitting coffee. And don’t get me started on wine!! I had recently tried Crest white strips, but wasn’t a huge fan of them because of how difficult they were to keep on. When I wore them, they slipped off my teeth almost every time, so I felt like it was a waste. I had finally accepted that my teeth will probably never reach their full, whiteness potential.

Being a blogger and all, it’s impossible not to want a fresher, whiter smile – it’s our biggest accessory! But we also want convenience, am I right? Enter Smile Brilliant! I’m so glad that I found a whitening kit that is EASY and that WORKS.

Here’s the rundown:

Smile Brilliant is an at home teeth whitening system that has really figured it out. They are recommended by more dentists than any other whitening product! And can whiten your teeth for 70% of your dentist’s cost, and over twice as fast! Amazing, right?!

After receiving your whitening kit, you send in your teeth molds (don’t worry – they pay for your shipping to send it back!). Then they send your custom-fitted trays straight to your door, and boom you can get started!

First of all, the step-by-step instructions are very user friendly and easy to understand! I loved this because when using a product with multiple steps, I need it all thoroughly described or I worry I’m doing it wrong. This seemed so easy!

Another thing I loved about this process, is the custom teeth trays. They actually stay in place, unlike most strips I’ve used that slide off your teeth when wearing them. I can actually do things and talk (just with a slight lisp haha) while I have them in without worrying about them messing up or slipping off my teeth. Because who has time to just sit there while you wait?!

Now for the question you’re probably already asking in your head – does it give you tooth sensitivity? While I definitely experienced some mild sensitivity while the trays were in, I hardly felt any once I was done using them. The only time I had any gum pain was during the whitening (because the gel was touching my gums slightly). It does burn a bit at first, and may be a bit uncomfortable, but nothing too crazy. Fortunately, they provide you with a desensitizing gel to use after the wwhitening gel! This seemed to help my gums a lot! I was so thankful for this, because I hate when my teeth get sensitive, and any other whitener I’ve used makes them sensitive. I’m sure everyone’s teeth/gums are different, but for me it was very minimal sensitivity. If you do experience some though, they have tips for helping ease it 🙂

My favorite thing about the custom whitening trays? THEY WORK! I noticed a difference within a couple times of using them. It’s honestly pretty amazing to watch your teeth change within a couple weeks’ time! I’ll share my before and after photos below so you can see for yourself.

I would 100% recommend Smile Brilliant if you’re looking to whiten your teeth. Not only does the product work, but the customer service is extremely helpful and kind. I even messed up one of my first molds I sent in for my trays, and they quickly sent me a second round so that I could try again! They were helpful in how to properly do it and were very patient. I also received everything in the mail promptly and quickly!

Before showing off my Before’s and After’s, let’s talk GIVEAWAY! I’m teaming with Smile Brilliant to give away a customized tray creation kit!! This is a $139 value, so you definitely don’t want to miss out on entering! The giveaway will be open for ONE week! Winner will be announced two weeks from now (June 19); be sure you’re following me on Instagram to keep up! (@bethtayreas)

Monday Motivation

Hi guys! Hope your week is off to a lovely start. After having my family in town last week, this week already seems to be dragging and quite boring. I wish I could just keep them here with me, haha! We had so much fun. I’m already anxious for their next visit.

We spent most of the time at the beach, but when we weren’t on the beach we went out exploring some new places – shops, coffee/food places, etc. – and eating yummy food (my best hobby!). We shot these photos in Historic St. Andrews – one of my all time favorite spots in this whole area!

This outfit was perfect for covering up my sunburnt shoulders without making me sweat in the heat! I bought this shirt at Riffraff several years ago, and I’m so happy I have held onto it, because bell sleeves are making the biggest comeback! I will link the outfit details at the bottom of the post (linking similar shirts since this one is old)!

Anyways, let’s talk about getting OUT of your own head and letting positivity in!

One of my BIGGEST struggles this week, to be honest.

I have come a reeeally long way as far as self love and all that goes. Most days, I love myself regardless of what negative thoughts try to pop into my head and ruin my day… But some days, or weeks, just don’t come as easy. Some days, my negativity toward MYSELF saturates everything I do and affects my whole mood. Not cool, but it is what it is. So please know that you are not the only one struggling with this!

My husband said something very profound to me today, although to him it was probably a simple remark. But when I was complaining about something, I said to him, “Ugh, it’s fine. I’m fine.” And he replied with, “Fine, or good?” WOW this resonated so much for some reason. (Sorry babe for telling this 😘 but your wisdom must be shared!)

Maybe it’s just me, but that made me stop and think about how negative I was being for NO reason. I was acting like my world was going to end, when in reality, I am good and LIFE. IS. GOOD. God has given me this life and this purpose, and it is good and it is well. We aren’t put here to be average and “just fine” but to be happy and purpose-driven.

It’s like God is just really pushing for me to get my chin up ASAP because on top of the hubby’s encouragement, I was reading my devotional and it basically said, “You’re gonna get through today, no matter what, so you might as well take the happy route through today, by choosing Me.”

If you’re doubting yourself, whether it be your appearance, your financial situation, your job, whatever – please remember to choose Him, choose HAPPY! Being happy is a choice, and you’re the only one who can make it 🙂

I may only be preaching to myself today… but hey, I hope this helps you lift your chin a little like it did mine. Hope your week is fabulous! Thanks for stopping by
